COMMON QUESTIONS
What if I've never done martial arts?
Perfect. Beginners are genuinely welcome in every class. You’ll be partnered with experienced students who can guide you, and instructors provide personal attention throughout. Feeling awkward at first is completely normal — and expected.
Can I just show up, or do I need to register?
You can simply arrive a few minutes before class. That said, scheduling a short visit with Head Instructor Michael Farris first is a great way to get oriented before you step on the mat.
Do I need to be fit or athletic?
Not at all. Ki-Aikido is based on technique and mind-body coordination, not strength or fitness. Students range in age from their mid-20s to mid-70s and come from all fitness backgrounds.
Is this a self-defense class?
While the practice of Ki-Aikido includes self-defense techniques, the practice goes much deeper. The emphasis is on cultivating mind-body coordination, calm under pressure, and a way of meeting conflict — on and off the mat — with clarity rather than force.
